T. Murray Purcell was born and raised in Newmarket Ontario. He is married to Roselle for 30 years, and the proud father of Kevin(25), Hayley(23) and Alex(21). Murray graduated from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute with a Bachelor of Technology, Survey Engineering in 1985.  He articled to his father James M. Purcell (Commission 969) and became an Ontario Land Surveyor in 1990 (Commission 1683).

Murray Purcell is the principal owner of Lloyd & Purcell Ltd., a Newmarket based land surveying company, employing 4 additional Ontario Land Surveyors and 30 more employees.  He has been an active volunteer in the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors.  Like his father he was Chair of the South Central Regional Group.  He has also acted as an Assistant to the Academic and Experience Requirements Committee, a member of the Complaints Committee and a member of Council from 2002 to 2005 before returning to Council in 2015 as Vice President.

Through Murray’s travels this year as President of the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors he has gained a better understanding and respect for the intricacies and operation of a professional Association and the frustrations of self-governance.  While each of the provinces vary in size and membership numbers the issues and diversity of members is the same.

Roselle and he have made many friendships and memories across Canada this year that will be cherished for a lifetime.

Murray’s passions include golf, and hockey (neither of which he is very good at). He has an interest in almost any type of music and considers himself somewhat of a Rock and Jazz authority.  Like most AOLS Presidents, he has yet to discover a bad glass of scotch … but keeps trying!
